The District Superintendent of Police (Kollam Rural) S. Ajeetha Begum has said that the civil service is one of the best platforms to serve the people.

“It provides one the opportunity to directly serve the people by addressing their grievances. The satisfaction coming from such service is immense,” she said.

Ms. Ajeetha said this while addressing a gathering here on Thursday after inaugurating the State-level regional Youth Assembly of the Church of South India.

The opportunity of addressing an exclusive gathering of youngsters was used by the Indian Police Service officer to encourage the younger generation to prepare and appear for the civil service examinations.

Giving a description of her social background, Ms. Ajeetha said that she was the first graduate in her family and speaks volumes about her conservative background where girls are married off soon after passing their high school.

“But I always nursed a dream of becoming a graduate and my father supported it,” she said. She said that she is also the first woman from the Muslim community in Tamil Nadu to become an IPS officer. Her inspiration to prepare for the civil service came while listening to a woman IAS officer who was a guest speaker at an institution where she was studying.

“I would only be too happy if some of the youngsters from this audience get a similar inspiration,” she said.

Chairman of the assembly, Bishop K.G. Daniel said that 120 delegates from the six CSI dioceses across the State are attending the assembly with the theme “Back to the Bible.”

The assembly concludes on Friday.
