: Widening of the roads in and around the busy Caltex Junction here is expected to ease the traffic gridlocks that have caused inconvenience to the public.
The Rs. 75-lakh Caltex Junction widening project, inaugurated by P.K. Sreemathi, MP, here on Tuesday is seen as an answer to the traffic congestion, especially on the National Highway passing through the area. Vehicles on the highway often move at a snail’s pace during busy hours due to the narrow roads in the area.
Portions of land of the Collectorate compound, Taluk Office premises, the municipality’s shopping complex and land belonging to private owners have been handed over for the road-widening project. Officials said the project estimate included the cost of works such as reconstruction of drainage channels and footpaths as also re-tarring of the widened areas.
The fund was allocated from the MP’s local area development fund.
Ms. Sreemathi said collective efforts were required for the development of the town. — Special Correspondent
