Puttingal tragedy: 65 testify before panel

The Central government’s commission appointed to probe the April 10 fireworks explosion at Puttingal Devi Temple near here began its sitting at Paravur on Monday.

Sixty-five persons gave statements before the commission. They comprised Paravur Municipal Chairman K.P. Kurup, kin of those killed in the tragedy, injured persons, and others living in the vicinity of the temple. The commission members arrived at the temple precincts by 10.30 a.m. for an on-the-spot study of the scene there. The statements of three persons were taken at the site. By 12 noon, the commission began its sitting at the Paravur Municipal Council hall. The sitting at Paravur will continue on Tuesday too. The commission is headed by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisations’ (PESO) Joint Chief Controller of Explosives (South Circle) A.K. Yadav.
