Religions go through a process of politicisation in several countries and fundamentalist and radical extremist religious groups try to shape the public space according to their own convictions, leading to violence and conflicts between religions, according to Hielke Wolters, Associate General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
Dr. Wolters was delivering a speech on ‘Faith and witness in public space’ at the inaugural session of the three-day assembly of the parliament (Prathinidhi Sabha Mandalam) of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar in Thiruvalla on Tuesday.
He said Churches in India, Pakistan, Syria, Egypt, Nigeria and many other countries were going through a period of discrimination and persecution.
