Pinarayi to open Paripally medical college

August 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:08 am IST - KOLLAM:

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will formally inaugurate the Kollam Government Medical College at Paripally on August 14.

The medical college has been constructed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation and slated to function as Paripally ESI Medical College Hospital. Under the project, the medical college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on December 22, 2013.

But following the National Democratic Alliance coming to power at the Centre in May 2014, the ESIC took a decision not to run medical colleges. This led to the State government taking over the college and its facilities. The State government then named it Kollam Government Medical College.

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja will preside over the inaugural function.
