P.B.R. Pillai cremated

The body of veteran socialist leader P.B.R. Pillai (86 years) was cremated at his house compound at Aymanam on Tuesday evening.

Pillai, 86, who was under treatment after an accident in Thiruvananthapuram, died on Monday night. He was a bachelor.

Pillai’s political life commenced at a tender age when he was actively involved in student politics as a member of the Students Congress. Attracted by the teachings of Ram Manohar Lohya, he joined the socialist movement and his life ever since was closely linked to that of the movement. As such, he was member of the Socialist Party, Praja Socialist Party, Samyuktha Socialist Party, Indian Socialist Party, Janata Party and Janata Dal. Pillai had represented the Ettumanur Assembly segments twice, in 1970 and 1977.
