Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee former president C.V. Padmarajan has said that only the Congress can put up an effective counter force against the growing communalism in the country.
“In order to protect the secular democratic traditions of the country it is necessary that the Congress strengthened itself.”
Mr. Padmanabhan said this while addressing a meeting to commemorate the 52nd death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at the District Congress Committee office here on Friday.
He said that a serious introspection and a sincere study should be undertaken to understand the real causes of the major setback suffered by the United Democratic Front in the Assembly elections.
During the two-year rule of the Narendra Modi government, the common man had been completely sidelined, he said. He also called for strengthening the democratic process in the party by holding elections from the booth level to elect office-bearers.
DCC president Kodikunnil Suresh presided over the function.
