: A group of students has taken up a mission to address the issue of shortage of equipment at the Thrissur Government Medical College.
The NSS volunteers of the IES College of Engineering, Chittilappilly, have taken up repair of damaged equipment, dumped at corners of the hospital.
During a seven-day camp ‘Punarjani’, from August 22 to August 28, 80 NSS volunteers of the college repaired broken cots, tables, wheel-less stretchers, wheel chairs and oxygen cylinder carriers.
“The objective is to improve the limited facilities at the government hospital, which is the last resort of poor patients. Our services would help society, local self-governments and the Health Department,” said A.J. Edizon, NSS Programme Officer.
This is the third consecutive year that the students of the IES College are conducting this kind of service at the Thrissur medical College. “The spirit of Youth for the rejuvenation of Government hospitals’ is the slogan of the programme.
The programme is aimed at involving the youth in the nation building process and giving them opportunity to serve society. “During the last two years, the students have repaired more than 500 equipment at Thrissur Medical College Hospital.
