: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and former party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday that the recent incidents of violence “unleashed” by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers against CPI(M) workers revealed an unholy nexus between the Sangh Parivar and the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.
Talking to reporters, the CPI(M) leader said the UDF government's ‘inaction’ was behind the recent incidents of attacks on CPI(M) workers. He said the pact between the RSS and the UDF had encouraged RSS workers to indulge in violence. The policy of the UDF government amounted to providing shelter to the ‘RSS gangs’ resorting to violence, he observed.
He further alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was behind this pact forged with political motives.
Mr. Vijayan said during the UDF rule over the last four years, 17 CPI(M) workers had been killed by RSS workers. As many as 28 party workers had lost their lives during the period in attacks by workers of rival parties in the State, he added.
He also said the CPI(M) was being attacked by the RSS because of its principled stand against communalism.
