Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that public figures will gain the recognition of society only if they lace their performance with services with sacrifices for the welfare of the people.
Model politicians
“It is because leaders like A.A. Rahim used to be such models that they continue to be remembered by the people,” Mr. Chandy said while addressing a meeting here on Tuesday to commemorate the 20th death anniversary of Rahim, a native of Kollam, who had served as a minister in Kerala, a Union minister and a Governor.
He said that contemporary performance by politicians is marked by several shortcomings. The gap between the performance of contemporary politicians and those during the Freedom movement is very wide. In the past politicians used to stand united to serve the country and its people even in the face of adversities.
“This made each and every politician a pride of the land.” The function was presided over by former KPCC president C.V. Padmarajan. MLAs P.K. Gurudasan and A.A. Azeez; DCC president V. Sathyaseelan; Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan; and Indian Union Muslim League district president Younus Kunju among others spoke on the occasion.
