Mani dismissive of LDF victory claim

April 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Kerala Congress (M) chairman K.M. Mani has said that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government is facing the people on the basis of an unprecedented period of development in the history of the State.

Participating in an interface with the media here on Thursday, Mr. Mani said 86 per cent achievement in Plan expenditure during the period was a commendable one. The government has also brought 34 lakh people from the marginalised section under the welfare net and has spent Rs.3,016 crore on their benefits.

Farm sector crisis

Reacting to a question, Mr. Mani said mere allegations of corruption without any evidence would be rejected by the people.

On the lingering crisis in the farm sector, Mr. Mani said the crisis was not a creation of the UDF.

“However the people will judge how we overcame the situation,” he added.

The KC(M) chief scoffed at the claims of LDF victory in pre-poll surveys and alleged that they were tactics adopted by event management firms assigned by the Left coalition.

To a question he said his party kept equal distance from the CPI(M) and the BJP.
