Life miserable under LDF rule: Chennithala

July 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - KASARAGOD:

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has made life miserable for the common man by imposing an additional tax burden of Rs.805 crore in its new budget, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has said.

There was a total breakdown in the law and order situation in the State, he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Cess on gift

The decision to impose an extra three per cent cess on gift and partition deeds among family members was a rude shock and would hit the economically weaker sections, Mr. Chennithala said. The United Democratic Front would discuss the price spiral in the State at a meeting on Monday, he said.

Alleging a total breakdown in the law and order situation, he said the State witnessed as many as 48 murders since the LDF came to power two months back.

Mr. Chennithala said the police remained mute spectators in most cases, more so during the recent clashes involving mediapersons and lawyers. An effective police intervention could have prevented the incident from turning worse.

High-speed rail

To a query, he said the UDF was of the view that the proposed high-speed rail corridor in the State should be stretched up to Kasaragod, instead of limiting the line up to Kannur.
