LDF bags 4 seats, UDF retains 12 in Malappuram

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) made gains in the district by winning four seats when the United Democratic Front (UDF) retained 12.

In 2011, the UDF had won 14 seats in the district.

This time, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Congress lost one seat each to the LDF – Tanur and Nilambur respectively.

In Kondotty, IUML’s T.V. Ibrahim defeated LDF Independent K.P. Beeran Kutty by 10,654 votes. BJP’s district president K. Ramachandran secured 12,513 votes.

In Eranad, IUML sitting MLA P.K. Basheer defeated LDF Independent K.T. Abdurahman by 12,893 votes. K.P. Baburaj (BJP) polled 6055 votes. In Nilambur, LDF Independent P.V. Anvar defeated Congress’ Aryadan Shoukath by 11,504 votes. When BDJS’ Girish Mekatt got 12,284 votes, SDPI’s K. Babu Mani polled 4,751 votes.

In Wandoor, Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar (Congress) defeated CPI(M)’s K. Nishant by 23,864 votes. BJP’s Sunita Mohandas won 9,471 votes. In Manjeri, IUML sitting MLA M. Ummer beat CPI’s K. Mohandas by 19,616 votes. BJP’s C. Dinesh polled 11,223 votes.

In Perinthalmanna, Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali (IUML) defeated CPI(M)’s V. Sasikumar by 579 votes. BJP’s M.K. Sunil was in the third place with 5,917 votes. In Malappuram, IUML sitting MLA P. Ubaidullah defeated CPI(M)’s K.P. Sumati by 35,672 votes. BJP’s Badusha Thangal got 7,211 votes when Welfare Party’s E.C. Aysha secured 3,330 votes.

In Vengara, Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty (IUML) defeated CPI(M)’s P.P. Basheer by 38,057 votes. BJP’s P.T. Ali Haji got 7,055 votes when SDPI’s Kallan Aboobacker polled 3,049 votes.

Rabb wins

In Tirurangadi, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb (IUML) defeated LDF Independent Niyas Pulikkalakath by 6,043 votes. BJP’s P.V. Geeta Madhavan got 8,046 votes.

In Tanur, LDF Independent V. Abdurahiman defeated IUML sitting MLA Abdurahman Randathani by 4,918 votes. BJP’s P.R. Rasmilnath polled 11,051 votes. In Tirur, IUML sitting MLA C. Mammootty defeated LDF Independent Gafoor P. Lillis by 7,061 votes. BJP’s M.K. Devidasan secured 9,083 votes.

In Tavanur, LDF sitting MLA K.T. Jaleel defeated Congress’ Ifthiqaruddin by 17,064 votes. BJP’s Ravi Thelath secured 15,801votes. In Ponnani LDF sitting MLA P. Sreeramakrishan defeated Congress’ P.T. Ajaymohan by 15,640 votes.
