The Smart Energy Programme (SEP) for schools will be launched at Bishop Hodges Higher Secondary School, Mavelikara, on Tuesday, marking the official inauguration of the project on saving energy at the educational-district level.
Mavelikara municipal chairperson Leela Abhilash will launch the project, being organised in coordination with the Energy Management Centre, an autonomous organisation under the Department of Power.
The project is aimed at generating awareness on energy conservation among schoolchildren. SEP focuses on steps to avoid wastage of energy. Conservation is considered the ideal way to bridge the gap between demand and supply, apart from reducing dependence on fossil fuel.
The project has been evolved with a view to helping people to use energy wisely, resulting in less consumption. Simple changes in approach as well as application could lead to significant energy savings.
