The District Congress Committee (DCC) has urged the Congress leadership in the State to send a high-level fact-finding team to the violence-hit areas of Kannur to assess the scale of violence unleashed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers.

The DCC in a press release here said its president K. Surendran raised the demand at the KPCC executive committee meeting on May 23 that the KPCC send the high-level team to the trouble-torn areas of Kannur. Congress workers and offices in the district had been under attack since the counting of votes, he said.

Offices, libraries ravaged

In the Dharmadam constituency alone, from where Chief Minister-designate Pinarayi Vijayan was elected, several party offices and libraries had been vandalised, the release said.

At Payyannur, cars of two college teachers belonging to a teachers’ organisation affiliated to the Congress had been torched, he said.
