The walls of the 500-year-old St. Angelo Fort came alive with the history of the Portuguese-built monument at the inaugural of the light and sound show here on Monday night. The multi-media laser projection and scanning along with lighting and 7.1 surround sound revived the history of the fort and the region with special effect.
A large crowd of people who turned up to watch the inaugural show was spellbound as history was replayed in the hybrid light and sound show, the first of its kind in the State, inside the fort.
Rs.3.88-cr. project
The Rs.3.88-crore light and sound show project has been set up by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the show.
The show was written and directed by Shanker Ramakrishnan, and designed and produced by Bengaluru-based tech firm, Symbolein Technologies. It features the history of the Arakkal and Chirakkal rulers of Kannur, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British colonial powers and India’s Independence. The story is narrated in the voices of actors Mammootty and Kavya Madhavan. Mammootty is also presented as the fictional ‘Count of Fort St. Angelo’ watching over the history of the fort.
“It’s a new experience to voice 500 years of history through my lead character, the Count of Fort St. Angelo,” said the actor on his Facebook page with a post on the trailer of the light and sound show. The trailer on his page has been watched by over 2.32 lakh people so far.
Though the show was formally inaugurated on Monday, the regular show will begin from the first week of April. The show is expected to draw crowds to the historic monument.
“The technical quality of the show is superb and the inaugural show ended without any glitches,” said DTPC secretary Saji Varghese.
