November 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Thrissur:

Guruvayur Keshavan, the legendary elephant of the Guruvayur Devaswom, was remembered on its death anniversary at the Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple on Saturday.

Devaswom elephants garlanded the statue of Keshavan. The elephants were paraded from the Thiruvenkatachalapathy temple premises in a procession to the premises of the Sree Valsam Guest House, where the statue of Keshavan is installed.

Elephants Gajaratnam Padmanabhan and Balram carried pictures of Keshavan and Guruvayurappan, respectively. A Gaja Puja and Anayoottu were held in the morning. In all, 28 elephants participated in the function.

Elephant Keshavan was presented to Devaswom by Valiya Raja of Nilambur in 1922.

The elephant served the temple for 54 years. Devaswom conferred the title Gajarajan on Keshavan in 1973.

Ekadasi will be observed at the temple on Sunday.
