Green booth to familiarise voters with EVMs

April 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

The District Election Office here has opened a ‘green polling booth’ at the Collectorate on Friday to familiarise voters as well as others with the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the voting process.

Inaugurating the polling booth, District Collector S. Harikishore said even children and those who did not have voting rights too could cast vote there and familiarise themselves with the process.

The polling booth had been set up by the Harita Sena of schoolchildren, using bamboo poles, reeds, plated coconut leaves, and other bio-degradable materials.

Nominations filed

SUCI candidate K.G. Anilkumar filed his nominations before the Returning Officer for the Aranmula Assembly segment on Friday.

The Collector has launched a new voter awareness campaign by pasting posters on the KSRTC buses, private buses and autorickshaws, urging the voters to join the ‘Mission-80’ campaign aimed at raising the polling percentage to 80 in the Assembly polls.
