Fuel-efficient fishing vessel to be launched

Sagar Haritha, the fuel-efficient combination fishing vessel, developed by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi, will be taken to the sea on Monday.

Trilochan Mahapatra, Director General of the Indian Council for Agriculture Research, will launch the vessel at a function to be held at the NIPHATT jetty at 11 a.m.

The inaugural meeting will be held at the CIFNET auditorium on April 18 at 9.30 a.m., said C.N. Ravisankar, director of the institute, told media persons here on Friday. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) Division of the Indian Council for Agriculture Research, will preside over the function.

NASF project

The development of the vessel was taken up as part of the National Agricultural Science Fund (NASF) project with the support of the Goa Shipyard and two private agencies.

Leela Edwin, head of the Fishing Technology Division and M.V. Baiju, the naval architect of the institute, were also present at the press conference.
