Fronts exude confidence in Pathanamthitta

April 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

United Democratic Front, Left Democratic Front and the National Democratic Alliance leaders appear confident of getting the people’s mandate in each one’s favour in all the five Assembly segments in the district in the ensuing Assembly elections scheduled for May 16.

Addressing an election debate held at the Press Club Hall here on Tuesday, the UDF district convener, Babu George, claimed that the Konni Assembly segment represented by Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash had witnessed a model development in the State over the past five years. Mr. Prakash would win the ensuing polls too with a higher majority, he said.

He said people were very much happy with the development initiatives of Aranmula MLA, K. Sivadasan Nair.

Mr. George said the LDF MLA in Ranni had failed to take up various development programmes launched by the UDF government during the past five years.

He said the UDF candidate, Mariyamma Cherian, was sure to win the Ranni seat.

Similarly, the LDF MLA in Adoor too was a failure in taking up various development schemes over the past five years. Mr. George said the UDF nominee in Thiruvalla, Joseph M. Puthuserry, would register a thumping victory in the May 16 elections.

Addressing the debate, the LDF district convener, Alex Kannamala, said the people wished for a change of guard, as they were fed up with the UDF rule rooted in corruption. Mr. Kannamala said the LDF candidates, Mathew T.Thomas, R.Sanalkumar, Chittayam Gopakumar, Raju Abraham and Veena George, would register a thumping victory from the constituencies of Thiruvalla, Konni, Adoor, Ranni, and Aranmula respectively. He said the sitting MLA in Ranni would improve his margin of victory and it was none other than the senior Congress leader, P.J. Kurien, who had opposed Mr. Puthusserry’s candidature in Thiruvalla. Mr. Kannamala said the Thiruvalla Assembly segment saw a never-before development under the leadership of Mr. Mathew T. Thomas in the past 10 years.

‘Mass support’

The BJP district president Ashokan Kulanada claimed a huge rise in the mass base and support of the NDA.

He said the Narendra Modi government had sanctioned Rs. 32,000 crore for road development alone in Kerala.

The NDA candidates, Akkeeramon Kalidasan Bhattathirippad, K.Padmakumar, M.T.Ramesh, Sudhir and Ashok Kumar would win the polls in the Assembly segments of Thiruvalla, Ranni, Aranmula, Adoor and Konni respectively.
