Former DCC president passes away

Former president of the District Congress Committee (DCC) K. Veluthambu, who played a pioneering role in streamlining the cooperative movement in the region, passed away following cardiac arrest at a hospital in Mangaluru on Friday.

Mr. Veluthambu, 79, is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. Mr. Veluthambu, during his over five-decade-long stint as a social and political activist functioned as KPCC executive committee member, National Cooperative Bank director, State Cooperative Bank vice president, District Cooperative Bank director, Thrikkarippur Farmers’ Cooperative Bank director and chief patron of the Thrikkarippur Chakrapani temple.

An array of political party leaders, including Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan; local MLAs N.A. Nellikkunnu, P.B. Abdul Razak, and K. Kunhiraman; and so on paid tributes to the departed leader.

The body of Mr. Veluthambu was kept at the DCC office here and at Kanhangad.

It was later taken to his residence at Thrikkarippur and cremated in the evening.
