Eco-awareness programme held

: The Quilon Nature Society organised an environment watch programme on Saturday to observe World Environment Day on Sunday. Charan Hariharan, who led the team, said the programme was conducted under the theme ‘Environment watch to create environment lovers and protectors.

He said that on Sunday the society members joined others to take forward the environment protection campaign. The environment watch programme was organised along the Munroethuruthi Islands on Ashtamudi Lake.

The team leader said there were fewer sightings of migratory birds as the season had concluded. But large flocks of lesser whistling ducks, pond heron, little egret, Brahmini kite, white-breasted water hen were spotted. The team also spotted several varieties of butterflies and dragonflies on the islands. The butterflies include southern bird wing, common emigrant, commander, peacock pansy and great pansy.
