Eco impact report of marina

Project to be implemented in PPP mode

August 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 05:57 pm IST - ALAPPUZHA:

The environmental impact study report on the proposed Alappuzha marina and water sports centre will be submitted to the government next month. The project is to be executed in the public private participatory (PPP) mode after getting environmental clearance.

A detailed project report on the marina and water theme park had been submitted by Deloitte two years ago.

The environmental impact study on the proposed project was undertaken by Kitco. The Kitco report is expected to be presented in September, a top official of Kerala Ports said.

A breakwater facility to maintain tranquil waters at the proposed marina is a major component of the project. Water sports like yachting, dinghy sailing, canoeing and pleasure cruises, meant for attracting tourists, need appropriate infrastructure. Dockage and repair works, coupled with tourism amenities would provide an ideal platform to attract domestic and international tourists.

Facilities

A modern marina will have multiple facilities like re-fuelling, stores, restaurants, ample parking space, and picnic area.

The amenities could be offered through fee packages. Passenger cruise activity within the district as well as services to Kochi could be explored. Backwater cruise in Alappuzha could be a major attraction for passengers reaching Kochi, says the report.
