Dheevaras divided over tie-up

October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

The State council of Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha (AKDS) has decided not to have any truck with the new party sought to be formed by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan.

AKDS general secretary V. Dinakaran said the new party would not protect the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs).

The proponents of the new party had announced their stand to support reservation based on economic status. It would adversely affect the quota being enjoyed by deprived castes, he said.

Meanwhile, the State council of Kerala Dheevara Maha Sabha has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the new initiative being launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mr. Natesan. Party working president K.K. Vamalochanan said the Yogam had never taken a stand against caste-based quota.
