The Kerala High Court, on Thursday, took the State government to task for providing better facilities in the prison for Saritha S. Nair, an accused in the solar scam cases.

Justice Harun Al Rashid made the oral observation when the court resumed hearing on the land grab cases in which Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, is involved. The court also asked why Saritha was taken to the Thiruvananthapuram jail via Puthuppally after producing her in a court in Kochi.

The court also referred to reports about visit of the wife of P. Mohanan, an accused in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, at the jail.

The court orally observed that better facilities were provided to these accused persons probably because they might have an unholy nexus with the government. The court further wondered whether the jail authorities had arranged a beautician for Saritha in the jail. The court also wanted to know who were influencing the jail authorities to provide such facilities to Saritha. Special government pleader P.A. Mohammed Shah said Saritha was enjoying all the rights of an under-trial prisoner.
