The decision to appoint Gita Gopinath, a known proponent of neoliberal policies, as the Chief Minister’s economic adviser is a testimony to the fact that Pinarayi Vijayan has lost trust in his Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V. Muraleedharan has said.
As the appointment of Ms. Gopinath is being hotly debated, CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan should clarify his stand over the controversial issue, he said. Ms. Gopinath has been adviser to quite a few U.S.-based multinationals opposed by the CPI(M), Mr. Muraleedharan said, addressing a press conference here on Monday.
Ms. Gopinath’s newly found position should be seen as Mr. Vijayan giving a clean chit to the economic policies pursued by the Modi government at the Centre, he said.
