Doctors warn against overuse of antibiotics

The two-day district-level annual obstetric and gynaecological conference held here warned against the overuse of antibiotics in everyday life.

The two-day conference concluded at the Kairali Resorts here on Sunday, the Kannur Obstetric and Gynaecological Society informed in a press release on Tuesday.

Experts who spoke at the sessions said the overuse of antibiotics had to be curbed. They also called for redefining ethics in medical practice.

The conference turned the spotlight on changing lifestyles, and discussed how food habits and lack of exercise affected reproduction in women.

The two-day deliberations reflected the problems faced by doctors in their practice and discussed methods to improve medical care.

The programme was inaugurated by All India Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society vice president Bharathi Dhorepatil. Senior gynaecologist V.P. Paily, society State president C. Nirmala, society district president Suchitra Sudhir and secretary Beena Umesh were present.

The conference included practical sessions on preventing complications in labour and tackling surgical emergencies.
