The police on Tuesday registered a case against seven persons, including the Principal of a college and students, for publishing in a college magazine a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with those of Adolf Hitler, Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden and Ajmal Kasab, the Pakistani gunman caught alive after the Mumbai terror attack.
On the basis of a complaint by Subhash Pakkath of Kanipayyur, the Kunnamkulam police registered a case against Krishnan Kutty, Principal of the Government Polytechnic College, Kunnamkulam; student editor Praveen, Gopi, Nikhil, James, Shyam and printer Printo, for publishing the photographs under the heading, ‘Negative Faces’, in a college magazine reportedly published in 2013.
An FIR has been filed under Sections 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 154 (owner or occupier of land on which an unlawful assembly is held), 120 (concealing design to commit offence) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
A police team led by Circle Inspector Krishna Das and sub-inspector K. S. Sandeep is investigating the case.
The BJP alleged that the magazine was brought out by a Students’ Federation of India-led college union and the editorial board comprised its activists.
In a statement, BJP district president A. Nagesh said the CPI(M) should reveal its stand on the issue.
