Mannam Jayanthi celebrations from today

December 31, 2016 07:30 pm | Updated 07:30 pm IST - KOTTAYAM:

The 140th Mannam Jayanthi will be observed with the Akhila Kerala Nair Prathinidhi Sammelan scheduled for Sunday followed by the Jayanthi Sammelan on Monday at the Nair Service Society (NSS) headquarters at Perunna.

Speaking to The Hindu , Nair Service Society general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair said on Saturday that the teachings of the founding father to serve the world through the service of the community was all the more relevant in the present context. “Every Jayanthi is a rededication to enliven his ideals,” he said.

Interestingly, in spite of the healthy relationship the NSS has with the Left Democratic Front leadership, none from the political class has been invited to grace the dais. It is learnt that the NSS has despatched invitation to politicians of all hues to participate in the Jayanthi function on January 2.

Day one of the celebrations will commence with floral tributes at the Mannam Samadhi on Sunday morning. The Prathinidhi Sammelan will commence by 10.15 a.m. when the general secretary will present the report. P.N. Narendranathan Nair, NSS president, will chair the session.

The Jayanthi celebrations on Monday will be inaugurated by Aswathi Tirunal Gauri Lakshmi Bayi, member of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore. D. Babu Paul, former Additional Chief Secretary; Prayar Gopalakrishnan, president, Travancore Devaswom Board; and C. Radhakrishnan, writer, will speak. Mr. Radhakrishnan and noted authority on Sanskrit Muthukulam Sreedhar will be honoured on the occasion.
