Thirty-four candidates filed nominations to the Assembly elections in the district on Monday. They included all candidates of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), except P.K. Kunhalikutty, and most candidates of the LDF. None had filed the nomination on the first day on Friday. In Kondotty, IUML’s T.V. Ibrahim and LDF independent K.P. Beerankutty filed nominations. In Eranad, IUML’s P.K. Basheer and LDF independent K.T. Abdurahman filed papers.
Congress’s Aryadan Shoukath, LDF independent P.V. Anvar, BDJS’s Girish Babu, and BSP’s Kiliyan filed nomination in Nilambur.
CPI(M)’s K. Nishant, BJP’s Sunita, and Welfare Party’s Krishnan filed papers in Wandoor. In Manjeri, IUML’s M. Ummer and K. Aboobacker, CPI’s K. Mohandas, and independent V. Mohammed Mustafa filed nominations.
In Perinthalmanna, IUML’s Manjalamkuzhi Ali and CPI(M)’s V. Sasikumar filed nominations. IUML’s T.A. Ahamed Kabeer and CPI(M)’s T.K. Rasheedali filed nomination in Mankada.
In Malappuram, IUML’s P. Ubaidulla and CPI(M)’s K.P. Sumati filed papers. In Vallikkunnu, IUML’s P. Abdul Hameed and INL’s O.K. Thangal filed nominations.
IUML’s P.K. Abdu Rabb, C. Mammootty and Abdurahman Randathani were the only candidates who filed nomination in Tirurangadi, Tirur and Tanur respectively.
In Kottakkal, IUML’s Abid Husain Thangal, NCP’s N.A. Mohammed Kutty, and BJP’s V. Unnikrishnan filed nomination. LDF independent K.T. Jaleel and BJP’s Ravi Thelath filed papers in Tavanur.
In Ponnani, Congress’s P.T. Ajay Mohan, and CPI(M)’s P. Sreeramakrishnan and M.M. Narayanan filed nominations.
None filed nomination in Vengara. Among the main candidates who are yet to file papers are P.K. Kunhalikutty (IUML), P.P. Basheer (LDF) and P.T. Ali Haji (BJP) in Vengara; K.
