As many as 108 candidates are in the fray from 26 seats of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat after the scrutiny of nomination papers here on Tuesday.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is February 11, when a clear picture on the number of candidates will be available.
According to the information provided by the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday, of the 139 nomination papers which were received for the zilla panchayat elections, one was rejected.
Taluk panchayats
As many as 301 candidates are in the fray from 98 taluk panchayat seats in the district. The highest number of candidates is in Kundapur Taluk Panchayat, and the lowest is in Karkala Taluk Panchayat.
There are 139 candidates from 37 seats in Kundapur Taluk Panchayat. As many as 166 nomination papers were received in Kundapur and all of them were found to be in order.
There are 115 candidates from 41 seats in Udupi Taluk Panchayat. As many as 118 nomination papers were received and they were found to be in order.
Only 47 candidates are in the fray from 20 seats in Karkala Taluk Panchayat. As many as 63 nomination papers were received and they were in order.
