A Janapada Sammelan was held at Vidhya Mangala Bhavan here on Thursday. The event was organised by Aniketana Trust.

President of the sammelan, Sugaiah Hiremath, was taken to the venue in a procession.

Delivering a presidential speech, Prof. Hiremath said that Janapada was the richest form of folk enriched by the people of rural areas and expressed human feelings and emotions using simple words.

He said youths should preserve Janapada and help to spread it.

Siddtotendra Shivacharya Swami of Korisiddeswar mutt, Nalwar, expressed his concern over the threats faced by Janapada and asked artists to continue stage performances to ensure that the ancient literature was not lost.

Cultural performances by various troupes were held on the occasion.
