World Folklore Day celebrated

K.M. Maitri, head, Department of Folklore, Hampi Kannada University, inaugurated World Folklore Day in Bidar on Saturday.

Mr. Maitri said that folk art could offer solace to distressed farmers, who were contemplating suicide throughout the State owing to crisis in agricultural sector and crop losses, besides pressure from financial institutions and moneylenders to repay the loans. He said it was commendable that Karnataka Folklore University was offering various courses to promote native knowledge. Jagannath Hebbale, regional coordinator of the folklore university, writer Rajashekar Jamadandi, Amrit Chimkod, president of Kalidas First Grade College Committee, and others were present.
