Progressive organisations, which criticised the State government for proposing to merge schools with meagre admissions, have welcomed the circular withdrawing ordered
Mutturaj, State convener of Samana Shikshannakkagi Janandolana Committee (SSJC), told The Hindu on Wednesday, “The government’s latest move is only a temporary relief. The information we have gathered shows that the government has not appointed teachers to 791 schools.”Further, he maintained that the committee would go ahead with its earlier plan to stage a protest in front of the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru on June 28.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat had planned protests against the government’s move. However, it has not yet taken a stand on whether to go ahead with the protest or not. “We will consult the State president of the parishat about the protest. However, we are happy that the government understood opinion on the idea of school merger and withdrew it. Anyhow, the parishat will always be in favour of strengthening government schools,” said Javagal Prasanna Kumar, general secretary of Hassan district Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
