Congress leader G. Devaraje Gowda has demanded that the State government withdraw the police security provided to former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his family members.
At a press conference on Monday, he said they were not entitled to the benefits being accorded to them. Prime Ministers and their family are entitled to security for a maximum of 10 years after their tenure. However, in the case of Mr. Deve Gowda, the State government has been providing security even after 10 years. “I have written to the officers concerned, but no action has been taken,” Mr. Devaraje Gowda said.
He also said that former Minister and MLA H.D. Revanna has been getting an escort and pilot vehicle from the government. “He is not entitled to get these services. Besides the vehicles, he has got policemen posted to guard his farm at Paduvalahippe village in Holenarsipur taluk. Four policemen each have been posted at all four gates of the farm. Nobody is allowed to enter the farm,” he said, urging the police to withdraw the security cover. However, he had no documentation to support his claim. Superintendent of Police R.K. Shahapurwad was not available for comment.
