Taking a jibe at Indian scientists who prefer to serve other counties, scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee C.N.R. Rao, has said that his life is dedicated to India.
“Even at the age of 83, I have been receiving offers from many nations to work for them … but it is my strong commitment to serve my nation till my last breath,” he said after receiving the first Bhaskaracharya Award instituted by Sri Channaveraswamy Pratishthana of Sindgi taluk on Friday evening.
He said that India has tremendous talent in the field of research and development and that scientists here should serve in India to take her to new strides.“India has over 60 crore children, perhaps the highest in any country. I am certain that in such a large population, there must be at least one Albert Einstein or Isaac Newton. What is needed is to discover the young talent, groom them and given them the right training,” he said.
Asserting that most of the Indian scientists have come from financially poor background, Dr. Rao said that seldom he found children of wealthy families become renowned scientists.
“This only shows that despite being poor, the talent in the country has enormous potential, we must nurture them…,” he said.
He said with this objective, his foundation has been offering free training to the State’s poor and elsewhere in becoming a scientist.
Dr. Rao also offered to impart similar training to at least 50 children of Vijayapura district if any organisation takes up the responsibility of sending them to his organisation.
‘No discrimination
in Science’
Mr. Rao said that the field of science does not discriminate like in the case of politics where people are discriminated based on caste or financial status.“ This is one field where everyone is equal … the only requirement is the talent and zeal to work as a scientist”, he said.
Defining who is a good scientist, Dr. Rao said that greater the scientist, simpler the person is. “The higher the scientist goes in this field, the humbler he becomes and should become”, Dr. Rao said.
