Awareness rallies and a walkathon marked ‘World No Tobacco Day’ in Mysuru on Tuesday.

An awareness rally, jointly organised by district administration, Department of Health and Family Welfare, and Anti-Tobacco Forum, was flagged off from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple. A large replica of a cigarette was carried in the rally to highlight the hazards of smoking. Participants carried placards with messages on the ill-effects of smoking and chewing tobacco. The procession culminated at J.K. Grounds. DHO Basavaraj, and ATF convener Vasanthkumar Mysoremath were present.

In another rally organised by KSRTC, hundreds of staff took out a rally from Palace North Gate to the Mofussil bus-stand. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, scion of the Mysuru royal family, inaugurated the rally by pouring water into a container of cigarettes. KSRTC managing director R.K. Kataria was present.

Narayana multi-speciality hospital, in association with JSS Dental College and Indian Dental Association, organised a walkathon, from Devanoor, themed ‘keep the cleanest city tobacco-free’.
