Untouchability still prevalent, says seer

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - CHAMARAJANAGAR:

Shadakshara Deshikendra swami of Adijambava Peeta expressed sadness over the continued practice of untouchability even after many years of Independence.

He was addressing a function organised to mark the 109 birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister and harbinger of green revolution Babu Jagjivan Ram at the Pete primary school on Tuesday.

The seer said the practice can be rooted out only when people developed the attitude of equality.

‘Education can help’

Stating that it was incorrect to separate people in the name of caste and religion, he said education could help remove this evil. Earlier, a portrait of Babu Jagjivan Ram was taken in a procession in an open vehicle from Traveller’s Bunglow to the event venue.
