Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute, Mysuru has taken up survey of six native tribes and 30 to 35 resource persons are conducting door-to-door visits in the settlements of these tribes to examine their status.
This was disclosed by Director of the Institute, T T Basavana Gowda, at the inauguration of a two-day national seminar on “Tribal Education in India – A special focus on 50 Scheduled Tribe communities in Karnataka” here on Friday.
He said the survey of tribal communities like Meda, Gonda, Eruliga, Hakki-Pikki, Siddi will bring out their social and economic status.
The director said the institute has proposed to conduct the survey of other tribal communities and submit a status report to the State and Union governments for evolving plans for their social, economic and educational empowerment.
Writer Kumuda B Shusheelappa, who belong to Hakki-Pikki community, inaugurated the seminar. Ms Kumuda, who is working as the assistant executive engineer at the KPTCL in Shivamogga district, said she had made a documentary film on Hakki-Pikki community.
