Three more varsity heads in trouble

August 22, 2016 02:42 am | Updated 02:42 am IST - BENGALURU:

A day after the former Vice-Chancellors of KSOU, K.S. Rangappa and M.G. Krishnan, were booked for alleged irregularities in the university during their tenures, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi has said action would be taken against heads of three other universities.

He told presspersons here on Sunday that the government would not heed to pressure and ensure that universities were free from corruption.

“Three others are in queue. The Chief Minister has also said that action should be taken against those who have indulged in irregularities,” he said and added that universities were plagued with casteism and nepotism. He also said that the government would recommend action against the former Vice-Chancellor of VTU, H. Maheshappa, who was suspended in March.

Common Act

The Minister said that a common Act for all varsities — Karnataka Universities Comprehensive Act — would soon come into force.

On the decisions taken in the meeting of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council on Saturday, Mr. Rayaraddi said the Karnataka State Music University and Sri Allamaprabhu Lalithakala Academy would be merged. He also said marks card of all universities would now be printed by Mysore Sales International Ltd.
