Six students at govt. hostel fall ill

Six students of a government school in Malavalli were taken to hospital on Wednesday after they complained of stomach pain and nausea.

The incident occurred in a hostel for girls of the Department of Social Welfare on the Malavalli-Kollegal main road, the police said.

According to preliminary investigations, the students, aged between 14 and 16, had a fight with the hostel warden before they were taken ill.

A student of Siddartha High School, who is also living in the same hostel, told presspersons here that the girls collapsed suddenly. There are 30 students in the hostel. However, except the six girls who were taken ill, no one else complained of uneasiness, Block Education Officer Bhima Nayak told The Hindu.

Officials of the departments of Police and Health visited the hostel.Meanwhile, the condition of the students is stated to be stable.
