CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury will visit Sigaranahalli in Holenarsipur taluk on Sunday.
He is visiting Hassan to participate in a national seminar. CPM district secretary Dharmesh told The Hindu that Mr. Yechury will visit Sigaranahalli around 10 a.m. and interact with Dalits.
Sigaranahalli has been in the news following the ‘upper’ castes’ opposition to Dalits entering Basaveshwara temple and a community hall in the village.
The Hassan district unit of the CPM had fought for the rights of the Dalits in the issue. Finally, they were allowed to enter the temple. However, the ‘upper’ castes have kept themselves away from the temple.
