Schools that fared poorly in SSLC exam face closure

May 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:53 am IST - Mysuru:

The Education Department has decided to close the schools in the district that have registered less than 20 per cent results for the past three years in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exam.

It has also resolved to withhold the salaries of the teachers, including the headmaster, of all the schools that registered less than 40 per cent results this year. Such schools will first be served notices and if their explanation is deemed valid, the salaries will be released.

But they will be warned to either improve or face stern action in future.

They will have to give an undertaking that they would strive hard to improve their results in the coming years, said Nagaraj, education officer and nodal officer of the District Evaluation Committee.

Stress on results going up

Though the district’s State ranking improved to 8th this year from 10th last year, and 23rd in 2014, the department wants the results to keeping going up, till Mysuru tops Karnataka.

A meeting of headmasters and Education Department officials was held earlier this week under the chairmanship of Deputy Director of Public Instruction Basappa at the NTMS Government Higher Primary School.
