Scholarship to economically poor students pursuing medical course

Three economically poor students, including the son of a coolie and two others hailing from small and marginal farmers families, pursuing their medical courses in three different medical colleges in the state have been selected to receive the monthly scholarship instituted by the Dr. P.S. Shankar Prathishtan.

The selected students, K. Avinash, Yogeshwari Chandrasekhar and Akash Talikote, would be getting Rs. 1,000 every month from September 2014 till they complete their courses. The students will be awarded the scholarship amount during the anniversary of Dr. P.S. Shankar Pratishthan held on January 1, 2015 in Kalaburagi.

About the students

Avinash has also been selected to receive the scholarship instituted in the name of Dr. N. Gangadharappa, hails from a very poor family. His parents Kodagaiah and Gowramma work as coolies and do other menial jobs in Bengaluru. He had scored 95.68 per cent in SSLC, 582 out of 600 marks in PUC along with 1764th rank in the medical stream of CET exams. He got admission in the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences.

Yogeshwari Chandrasekhar from Halasi (L) village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar secured 89.44 per cent in SSLC, 581 out of 600 in the PUC with 3,280th rank in medical stream of the CET. She got admission in the Father Muller Medical Education and Research Institute in Mangaluru. She would be getting the scholarship instituted in the name of Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa for a girl student hailing from Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

Akash Talikote hailing from Huvina Hippargi village in Basavana Bagewadi Taluk of Vijayapura secured 573 marks out of 600 in the PUC with 767th rank in the medical stream of the CET. He got admission in the Government Medical College at Belagavi.
