The plea by Karnataka opposing conduct of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to the 2016-17 academic year is likely to be taken up by the apex court at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Addressing presspersons after visiting the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences hospital here on Tuesday, Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil said that the state government had appealed to the Supreme Court to exempt students from Karnataka from appearing for the test as they were not prepared for the same.

On Monday, Dr. Patil told reporters in Bengaluru that it was the state government’s responsibility to stand up for students in the state. “We need to act on public thinking and a majority of the students feel they are not ready to face NEET this year,” he said.
