The newly-wed ‘royal’ couple — Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Trishika Kumari— stepped out of the Amba Vilas Palace here for the first time after their wedding for a procession on Wednesday evening.

The couple’s wedding and reception had been confined to select guests that included ‘royal’ families from across the country, family members, friends, VVIPs and politicians.

As the ‘royal’ family was keen to allow the public to greet the newly-wed, the couple were taken out in a procession in a decorated sedan, which was closely guarded by the palace police and some private guards.

Mr. Yaduveer’s mother Pramoda Devi Wadiyar was seated in the front. The trio were seen waving at the standing crowd, which jostled to take photographs of the newly-wed.

Escorted by a contingent of English Band which played music suiting the occasion, the car carrying the couple and Ms. Wadiyar, went around the palace fort.

A few spectators raised slogans hailing the Wadiyar family. Some succeeded in taking selfies from a distance.

Trishika’s parents Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshree Kumari, and Yaduveer’s uncle Raja Chandra Urs followed the car in another car, while some ‘royal’ family members walked along Yaduveer’s sedan.

When Yaduveer was adopted and coronated, he was taken out in a procession in a silver palanquin on the palace premises and also around Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle. However, the wedding procession was confined to the surroundings of the palace, which was illuminated for the fifth consecutive day.

People could stand and watch the procession as there was little respite from rain that the city has been experiencing since Tuesday. The turn-out to watch the procession was average as there was no prior information about the procession. The couple visited the temples located on the palace premises and received prasadam from the priests.
