Residents of Holalu village on Wednesday staged a protest on the Mandya-Melkote main road on the outskirts of Mandya demanding clearance of the alleged encroachment of a temple land.

According to the protesters, Raghavendra of Mallanayakana Katte had encroached upon 15 ft of land at Holalu, which belonged to the Holalamma Devi temple in the village.

They said that the encroachment was hindering the movement of people while reaching the temple.

The protesters raised slogans against the officials of Revenue and Police departments against their alleged inaction over the encroachment.

Mandya tahsildar Maruti Prasanna and other officials visited the spot and assured the protestors of necessary action in the matter.

Vehicular movement on the road had come to a standstill for a while.
