Mattar Ratnakar Hegde has been appointed president of the Udupi district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. Mr. Hegde will succeed Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, who has been appointed secretary of the State unit of the BJP. Mr. Ratnakar Hegde told The Hindu that that BJP had established itself firmly in the district by winning the Udupi Zilla Panchayat by an increased majority and all three taluk panchayats.

“My aim is to see that the BJP wins all five seats in Udupi district in the next Assembly elections. I will strive to create a consensus within the party and take all party members together,” he said.
