Members of various organisations including the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, the All-India Democratic Students’ Organisation and the Communist Party of India staged a protest here on Monday against the murder of litterateur M.M. Kalburgi.

The agitators gathered at Jayadev circle and marched till the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They alleged that the law and order situation in the State had completely deteriorated owing to the negligence of the State government, and that there was no security for progressive thinkers and litterateurs in the State.

The incident has created a situation where progressive thinkers will hesitate to express their views on various issues.

They also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner S.T. Anjan Kumar.
