More than 3,000 students from various colleges took out a 3,350 ft.-long national flag in a procession from Government Science College ground to Mahaveer Circle in the city on Wednesday.

The event titled ‘Deshakkagi Vidyarthi Nade’ was organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI) to promote patriotism among students.

Addressing the gathering at Mahaveer Circle later, Shivamogga MLA K.B. Prasanna Kumar condemned the assault on minorities and those belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes by cow vigilantes. The issue of cow protection has become a profitable venture and a means to strengthen the vote bank for vested interests. He called upon the youths not to fall prey to these vested interests.

Functionaries of NSUI Madhusudan and Srijith took part in the programme.
